Our Context
Boldon School is an 11-16 mixed community school and we currently have 1063 students on roll, with the majority coming from Boldon Colliery and South Shields. We have an increasing number of students joining us from other parts of South Tyneside as well as neighbouring authorities, Gateshead and Sunderland. Our Key Stage 2 Average Points Score (APS) has been in line with the national average. According to the latest information from Public Health England, South Tyneside is one of the 20% most deprived authorities in England, with Boldon Colliery amongst the most deprived 10% nationally. We are above national average in almost all of the areas shown below:

Regardless of context, everyone is committed to our school motto of: ‘Innovate, Focus, Achieve’, fiercely striving to implement new ideas and strategies to encourage our students to succeed. A great education has the power to transform lives, and our staff strive to improve standards of achievement by raising aspirations and thereby enhancing our students’ opportunities for success – whether that is in further education, employment or beyond.
As a school, our intention is to ensure that our students feel safe, happy and supported. We are committed to shaping our students’ emotional and social well-being. By incorporating strong shared values, of resilience and empathy, into our school culture, students are encouraged to show respect and humility; this enables our students to positively adapt in an ever-changing world and lead happy and successful lives.
Our ambitious curriculum is centred around the whole child, teaching key knowledge and embedding the understanding required to be effective lifelong learners; it is fundamental in providing all students, particularly our disadvantaged and SEND students, with the skills and cultural capital needed to thrive and reach their full potential.
