In science we study the things around us in the world and in the universe by learning through class lessons, practical investigations, experiments and discussion.
During Years 7 to 11 pupils build up knowledge of science as well as developing scientific skills.
3 broad areas are covered throughout the 5 years:
Biology: The study of living things and their environment.
Chemistry: The study of what things are made of and include the making of new substances.
Physics: The study of the properties of things.
Specialist teachers working in specialist laboratories backed by a team of technicians teach Science.
In Years 7 to 9 pupils get a lesson each of biology, chemistry and physics per week.
In Years 10 to 11 pupils also study science as biology, chemistry and physics. All pupils take GCSE Double Award Modular Science unless they are on the Work Related programme where they take a single award.
As an optional extra set 1 – Year 10 may be offered 'top up' lessons after normal school hours to allow them to take triple science and this gains separate GCSE's in Biology, Physics and Chemistry. This offer is only available to pupil in set one.
