Boldon has always made Information and Communication Technology (ICT) a high priority and this tradition is continuing with the school striving to keep up to date with all aspects of this rapidly changing area.
There are now four dedicated ICT suites, all of which are connected to the school network and subsequently to the Internet and National Grid for Learning. All pupils are given access to these facilities in via discrete lessons of ICT. In Key Stage 3 pupils have a single lesson of ICT in which all elements of the national Curriculum for ICT are taught. In Key Stage 4 pupils can opt to do GCSE ICT or GCSE Business and Comminication Systems, thereby giving all pupils access to a formal external ICT qualification.
Other departments within the school have internal computer facilities that are used to deliver subject specific ICT skills, giving pupils access to a wide range of software and hardware.
In the past two years the school have provided interactive white boards in several departments and these are seen as a significant aid to teaching and learning.
The school has continued to upgrade software, whilst aiming to standardise the programs used across the curriculum. The range of generic software available includes:
- Word processors
- Spreadsheets
- Databases
- Graphics
- Desk Top Publishing
- Data Logging and Control
- Computer Aided Design
- Computer Aided Learning
Parents with expertise in ICT who believe they may be able to contribute to the development of our resources are welcome to contact the school at any time.
