The crest was obtained by kind permission of the former Boldon Urban District Council from their armorial bearings granted in Coronation Year 1953. The crest, which surmounted the U.D.C. shield, comprises a black mural crown (symbolising the mining community), three wheat ears (representing agriculture) and the Durham lion holding Bishop Pudsey's 'Boldon Buke'.
The school motto 'Boldly Forward' is a free translation of the U.D.C. motto 'audaces Prorsum', meaning literally 'Ye Bold, On!'
