Head Teacher's Foreword

Opening quoteThe new Boldon School opened for teaching on Monday 6 November 2006.  Our building designed by Architects Waring and Netts and built by Gleeson Building was handed over on time on Monday 30 October 2006.

It is an exciting place in which to teach and learn and replaces our old worn out buildings which have now been demolished.  Everything is new, all of the furniture, fittings and equipment in all subjects.

All classrooms have an interactive whiteboard and computers.  In addition there are four dedicated IT suites.  Subject departments are grouped together and are reached by wide corridors and staircases.

Students have their own break out areas on the ground floor in which each year group can meet separately during the day.  The school has a calm open feeling when pupils move around it.

All departments are well equipped especially Technology, Art, PE and Music.  We have excellent sports facilities, a large sports hall, a gym, fitness room and a 25 metre, 4 lane, swimming pool.  Our sports fields now have a full size floodlit all weather football pitch and tennis courts to supplement the grass pitches.

We have a 220 seat theatre so that we can stage music and drama events.  Our main hall also provides a flexible space for school assemblies and other activities.Head Teacher

Our new dining facility, the Boldon Bistro operated by Scolarest, seats 450 students and serves delicious nutritious meals at lunchtime.

At the rear of the school there is a large secure playground area which like interior areas is covered by CCTV to ensure that everyone can work and play in a safe environment.

Boldon School offers every student the opportunity to succeed through hard work in a 21st century learning environment.Closing quote

Statement of Purpose

Our aim is to encourage all pupils to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the school to attain their full potential in all areas of school life - the academic, the social, the physical and the personal - so that they are ready both to play a productive part in a democratic society and to move forward to the next stage of education, training or career with confidence, as young people of responsibility and judgment.

The Aims of the School

  • To help each pupil to develop and realise his or her potential as fully as possible.
  • To help pupils form and maintain a positive self-image.
  • To allow as much scope as possible for the pupils' own curiosity and enthusiasm to be the basis of learning.
  • To encourage an awareness and understanding of the society in which the pupils live.
  • To care for, and support, pupils as developing adolescents.
  • To encourage pupils to develop an interest in, and enjoyment of, leisure activities, and to be part of the community.
  • To prepare pupils for life after school.
  • To provide an environment with a positive atmosphere in which pupils can learn.
  • To prepare pupils for external examinations.
